Practical resources for researchers

Format a manuscript for its target journal

Publisher names do not define a single manuscript format. Journals within Elsevier, Springer Nature, Wiley, IEEE, Taylor & Francis, SAGE, Emerald, MDPI and other publishers can have different requirements. Begin with the exact journal and article category.

Capture the live instructions

Save the author-guideline URL and date checked. Record word limits, headings, reference style, anonymization rules, figure specifications and required declarations. Use an official template when requested and verify whether initial submission permits a flexible format.

Keep structure and files consistent

Align the title, abstract, keywords and author information across the manuscript and submission portal. Check every table and figure callout and make captions understandable. Supplementary files should be named and referenced clearly.

Check the reference system

Use the required citation style, whether Vancouver, APA, Harvard, IEEE, MLA, Chicago or another specified system. Verify the bibliographic details and source-to-claim relationship rather than relying solely on a citation-manager export. Watch for unlinked citations after moving sections.

Review the compiled proof

Word conversions and LaTeX compilation can change equations, symbols, fonts or layout. Inspect the output that the journal will receive, not only the editable source. Resolve missing files and incorrect author metadata before final submission.

Optional website measurement

Choose whether Google Analytics measures page visits and contact clicks, and whether Google Ads measures ad-related WhatsApp clicks. These use cookies and device information. We do not send your project brief or message text. You can use the site either way. Privacy details
