Practical resources for researchers

Keep ORCID and publication profiles accurate

A researcher’s profile is useful when it accurately connects a person with their work. ORCID and database author records serve different functions, so review each record rather than assuming a correction on one platform updates every other platform.

Build a master publication list

Record title, authors, journal, year, DOI and publication status. Keep preprints, accepted manuscripts and published versions distinguishable. Use the publisher record to resolve discrepancies in titles, author order or dates.

Check identity and attribution

Review name variants and affiliations and look for papers incorrectly assigned to you. Follow the relevant platform’s correction or merge process. Do not claim another person’s work because their name resembles yours.

Manage permissions deliberately

You control which organizations can update your ORCID record and what is publicly visible. Review linked accounts and authorized connections periodically. A support provider can guide the record review without needing to retain your password.

Maintain the record at useful moments

Update after publication, a correction, an affiliation change or a new identifier. Keep evidence of the source for each entry. A complete, accurate record is more credible than a large profile containing duplicates or unverified claims.
